Stourbridge Ladies midfielder Alex Nicklin is calling on her team to go and make history ahead of their FA Cup second round clash with Cambridge City.
The Glassgirls who are unbeaten since October 17 take on Cambridge City Ladies, (a team in the tier above) at the Demcom Stadium this Sunday (November 28) at 2pm.
They have beaten Solihull Sporting Ladies 9-1 in the third qualifying round and Derby County 3-2 in the first round proper, to reach the second round for the first time ever.
Nicklin said: “There’s a lot of excitement around the game, it’s one we as a team are really looking forward to, and we have the chance to keep making history.
“Cambridge will provide us with a new challenge and we can’t wait to get going.
“It’s a very long journey over to Cambridge but the support from the fans will help us massively, we felt it at the Derby game in the first round, it really drove us on in order to get the job done.
“To have that support again would be incredible for us.”
Stourbridge Ladies made it to the first round of the competition last season, but lost to Wolves Women.
This season they have already gone one step further by reaching the second round, beating a Derby County (a side two tiers higher than themselves) 3-2.
Nicklin added: “It’s going to be a very tough game against Cambridge, there are no easy games in a cup competition. But we are aware of the challenge in front of us.
“After what we achieved at Derby a couple of weeks ago, there is no reason why we can’t go one round further and create more history.”
Nicklin and striker Millie Rodgers both grabbed goals in the two previous FA Cup fixtures.
Nicklin said: “I’ve enjoyed a decent goal scoring run this season both in the league and cup, so to further add to that tally in the FA Cup this week would be special.”
With a successful training week, manager Andy Fisher is set to have a full strength squad to take on the tier four side.
Nicklin added: “We are always working hard in training, the management team will have done their research about Cambridge and will no doubt prepare us in the best way.”
If the Glassgirls win the game, they will add more memorable moments to their already record breaking season.
Nicklin said: “To get through to third round of the FA Cup would be a special moment for the club.
“Also for me personally, as it would be my greatest ever football achievement, so fingers crossed we can go there and get the result.”
The game will take place at Demcom Stadium, Downham Road, Ely, CB6 2SH on Sunday November 28 at 2pm.
Ticket prices are £5 for adults and £3 for concessions.
