Glassgirls Midfielder up for award

Stourbridge Ladies midfielder Alex Nicklin has been nominated for the Best Women’s Footballer in Tier 5 and below in the Non League Bible awards.

Nicklin was announced as one of the finalists last Thursday (March 24). The voting then opened on Monday March 28.

All votes must be cast on Twitter underneath the relevant post (see post below).

The 27-year-old entered her second year with Stourbridge this season after signing from Kidderminster Harriers in 2020.

According to her teammates and manager Andy Fisher, “the midfielder has delivered some outstanding performances.”

Since signing for The Glassgirls she has bagged assists and scored important goals including one in the sides Women’s FA Cup victory over Derby County last year.

Nicklin said: “It’s a really nice feeling to be nominated for this award, it came out of nowhere so it was a very unexpected but pleasant surprise.

“It would be a lovely thing to win, but to me it’s just a testament to the rest of the girls in the squad who continue to bring out the best in me both on match days and in training. But just to be nominated means a lot to me.”

After a recent injury, Nicklin returned to training with the squad.

She was on the score-sheet in The Glassgirls 6-0 win over City of Stoke Women over the weekend. Her goal took her up to 20 goals so far for the season.

Nicklin added: “It’s always nice to get recognition for my hard work of course, but to me any of the girls in our squad could have been nominated, they’re such a special bunch and I wouldn’t be playing the way I am this season without them. We always make each other work harder and develop so I owe this nomination to them.

“I must also give a mention to the management team who push myself and all the girls week in, week out. It’s been such a special season and on a personal level I owe it all to the girls and the management team we have.”

The voting for the award closes on Thursday April 28. So, if anyone plans on voting for Nicklin, do it as soon as possible.

Nicklin and The Glassgirls are next in action on April 3 when they face Sutton Coldfield Town Women in the league cup semi-final at Coles Lane. Tickets can be bought on Sutton’s website or on the day. Prices start from one pound.
