The attendance for the Women’s Euro 2022 final at Wembley Stadium on Sunday July 31 is set to break the record attendance for any Euros match for men or women.
Tickets for the final went on sale on Monday March 28, and in under an hour they completely sold out.
Wembley has a capacity of 90,000. But, the highest ever attendance for a Euros final whether it be men or women is 79,115. This was for the 1964 men’s final between Spain and Russia at the Bernabeu in Madrid.
Currently the record for a Women’s European Championship final is 41,302. This was set at the 2013 championships when Germany defeated hosts Sweden. This year the record is set to be broken by a staggering amount.
Host and contributor on the podcast All for United Conner Roberts said: “It’s great to see the women’s game is growing not only at club level but also on the international stage too. It’s predicted the attendance for the Euro 2022 final will surpass the 79,115 who attended the men’s final in 1964 – I mean how incredible is that – some people are always quick to criticise the women’s game but this alone shows the demand is there.
“International football gives you that chance to see players live that you might not see play in England.”
More than 700,000 tickets for different matches across the tournament had already been sold in pre-sales, prior to their general release on Monday March 28.
Also, with just under 100 days to go until the Euros begin with England’s opening game against Austria at Old Trafford. The tournament is set to smash the record for the total number of watchers of the tournament on TV. The previous highest total being 240,045 which was from the 2017 tournament in the Netherlands.

Roberts added: “It’s brilliant to see lots of tickets being sold all across the european championships as it really shows the demand for the women’s game – the tickets didn’t sell out over a long period of time with lots of promotion needed – they sold out within an hour which shows how much people care and how much they wanted to make sure they had secured their seat for the final which is sure to be a momentous day for womens football.
“The interest in the women’s game in England especially is growing rapidly – every week there’s a new deal announced or another record broken for attendances or viewership on TV.”
The announcement of the Euro final being a sell out came after Manchester United women recorded the largest women’s super league (WSL) crowd of the season when they faced Everton at Old Trafford on Sunday March 27. The crowd was 20,241, which smashed the Red Devils previous best of 4,835 from 2018.
However, the biggest attendance for a WSL game remains 38,262 which was set when Tottenham played Arsenal in the North London derby at The Tottenham Hotspur stadium back in 2019.

The rise in crowds has dramatically increased since the 2019/20 season where the record attendance was only 5,265.
Roberts said: “The attendances across the WSL since covid haven’t risen too much since the return of fans this season – however games like the one at Old Trafford Sunday shows there are people out there willing to give it a try, some returning fans, some regulars and some new fans who were experiencing women’s football for the first time.
“It’s important not to underestimate the power of social media leading up to the game. During the week leading up to the game the word spreads around with all of the content being put out by not only the women’s team twitter accounts but the mens accounts too and therefore ticket sales increase.”

The Euros this year are set to become the most watched and attended women’s euro tournament in history therefore increasing the popularity of the women’s game not only in the UK but all over the world.
Tickets for the all of the Lionesses group games against Northern Ireland, Austria and Norway are all completely sold out.
If you wish to attend any other games, all venue information and ticket purchases can be made on the UEFA Women’s Euros ticketing website: https://www.uefa.com/womenseuro/ticketing/
