From breaking the WSL assist record formerly held by Karen Carney, to winning the Euros with England and becoming the BBC Sports Personality of the Year 2022. England and Arsenal forward Beth Mead had a 2022 to remember.

Below are five charts that show why she is the best female footballer in world football at the moment.

  1. Mead’s Assists by season with Arsenal

After breaking the WSL assists record last season, it’s only right we start with Mead’s assist stats. From the chart you can see her most successful season in terms of assists actually came a few seasons ago in 2018/19 as she grabbed 12 assists; apart from the 2019/20 season Mead has been very consistent.

  1. Mead’s Goals by season with Arsenal

As well as grabbing many assists per season, Mead also scores a lot of goals. Last season (2021/22) she scored 11 goals. This was her season where she was desperate to prove why she deserved a place in the England Women’s Euros side after being left out of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics squad in 2021.

  1. Mead’s overall goals and assists with Arsenal

In total for The Gunners Mead has played 105 games. And has scored 37 goals and grabbed 38 assists (the current WSL record of course). But more importantly, she has become an integral part in her side’s success.

  1. Mead’s England stats since 2019

Across her England career, Mead has made 50 appearances. (The data I could find only stretched back to 2019). But since 2019, the 27 year old has scored 29 goals and grabbed 24 assists. Her most successful tournament was during the Euros in the summer. Mead scored 6 goals and grabbed 5 assists in 6 appearances. Which led her to receive: the Golden Boot, a Winners Medal and of course Player of the Tournament. And in the 2023 World Cup qualifying round she was pivotal to The Lionesses success as she scored 13 goals and grabbed 14 assists in 10 games.

  1. Mead’s honours and awards in 2022

Finally, we come to Mead’s awards in 2022, this list arguably proves why she is the best female footballer in world football currently. She has won or received 9 different honours this year, from being voted England’s player of the year, winning the BBC women’s footballer of the year and being crowned BBC Sports Personality of the year 2022. She really has had a remarkable year, and to top it off she was awarded an MBE by King Charles in the new years honours list.
