Tomorrow top of the table Lye Town will be looking to continue their perfect start to the season when they take on newly relegated side Leek Town at home.
Lye go into the game sitting on top of the table on goal differnce as they have two wins in their opening two games, they’ve scored 11 goals and only conceded three so far. Their victories were a 5-1 win away from home against Coventry Sphinx and then a 6-2 win over Knowle.
Leek go into the game on the back of one win and one loss in their opening two games. They beat Knowle 4-1 on the opening weekend but then lost to Kidderminster Harriers 4-0 last week. They will be hoping to perform better this time out to push further up the table.
Natasha Baptiste (Lye), Chloe Handy (Lye) and Kimberley Cartlidge (Leek) are the players to keep an eye on as Natasha has scored 3 goals so far, while Chloe and Kimberley sit on 2. They will all be looking to add to their tally tomorrow.
Managers Dan Ludlow and Clive Rogers’ Comments:
DL: “We are confident going into Sunday, although we’ve had a perfect start there have been moments in those games where we haven’t been so perfect and I think the girls need to understand and remember that as we are always looking to progress constantly
CR: “First game of the season, Coventry Sphinx away we were excellent, last week against Knowle we had a better second half, we weren’t so good in the first.”
DL: “One of our big strengths is we have a lot of firepower across the whole front line, but not only that midfielders are chipping in with goals. The way we play suits our exciting players as it allows them to get on the ball and show what they can do.”
CR: “Defensively last season we were the best in the league, and this season we are continuing to do the right things, one goal last week was sloppy which was unusual for us, but our defense is a very solid base.”
DL: “This league, this season, there is no easy game at all. Every single game this season in comparison to some in previous seasons are a challenge, every game is tough. All the teams have recruited well like we have so I think this Sunday against Leek it’s going to be a case of who wants the win more and whos going to work harder. Which ultimately is what we build our philosophy on, winning every battle and working hard for the team every week.
On Leek losing last week and facing them after a 4-0 loss, Ludlow added: “When you lose a game you always want a reaction, they would have gone away and highlighted what went wrong for them, and how they can put those right against us, so they are going to be tough for us as they are strong, physical, hard workers and overall just decent players. It’s going to be a good game! A real battle.”
CR: “After a 4-0 loss for Leek, they will want to prove a point against us, but if we can start the game on the front foot and take the game to them early on, they may face another defeat come Sunday evening… We just have to be positive right from the off.”
The game is taking place at Lye Town FC, the full address is: 59B Stourbridge Rd, Lye, Stourbridge DY9 7DH.
Kick-off will be at 2pm on Sunday 15th September, tickets are £3 for adults and concessions are £1.
