Today Lye will be looking to build on their perfect start to the league season by having a good run in Women’s FA Cup, as they take on Coton Green Ladies away from home.
The Flyers go into the game in great form, after three games in the league they are yet to drop any points, sit top of the table, have scored 18 goals and conceded just 5. Their most recent victory was against former National League side Leek Town where they won 7-2 at home.
Coton play in the Birmingham County Women’s League Premier Division, a couple of tiers below Lye, however they also go into this game unbeaten in two league games. They’ve scored 7 goals and conceded just 2. It will be a tough test for Coton but could they go on to cause an FA Cup upset?
Lye’s squad for the game can be seen below:

Player of the match from last time out Lucy Davies retains her place as well as Chloe Handy, Louisa Butcher, Caitlyn Walton and more…
One big positive for Dan and Clives squad is that they have their club captain Sunya Salim ready for selection. She has recently returned from a long spell out due to injury but will be hopeful to get some minutes today.
Ahead of the game, captain Salim said: “I’m really looking forward to the game, the girls are also buzzing too! It’s always exciting playing in the FA Cup as its such a prestigious trophy, so to be in the draw itself is huge for us.
“Coton are a decent side and have had a great start to their respective season, but it’s something we as a squad are aware of and have prepared well for. We will treat it like any other game by trying to impose our style of play and hopefully execute our plan the best we can.”
On being back with the girls after such a long time out due to injury Salim added: “Honestly I’m so happy to be back, it’s been a tough couple of months out both physically and mentally but I’m more than ready to bounce back from it. I’ve been in training a couple of weeks now and I’ve recovered well and hopefully I’ll be able to get some minutes in the FA Cup.”
The Flyers have got the potential to do really well this season both in the league and the FA Cup. They will certainly want to go one better than their best ever FA Cup journey which saw them reach the second round proper but lose to Northampton last year.
Salim said: “We as a squad aim high in everything we do so to win the FA Cup is the dream, but obviously we would be naive to think that with the standard of clubs in the competition later on. So just to get further than last year would be massive for us as a club.
“Dan, Clive and Luke have such high standards and expectations of us, but that is the reason this Lye squad is the best one we’ve had in years for the women. This team is at its peak right now and we wouldn’t be sat top of our league and fighting in these cup competitions if it wasnt for the managers pushing us week in, week out in training and matchdays.”
The game is taking place today at New Mill Lane, B78 3RX. Admission is £5 for adults and U16’s are free.
